How to Care for Your CurvyEdit Clothing

Love Your Fit, Longer

You’ve found the perfect fit—now let’s keep it that way. At CurvyEdit, we choose quality fabrics designed to last. Following these simple care steps will preserve the shape, color, and softness you fell in love with, ensuring your favorite pieces stay favorites for years to come.

The Golden Rules of Garment Care

If you only read one thing, let it be this. These six habits will solve 90% of laundry mysteries.

  1. Read the Label. Always. It’s the single most important instruction manual for your garment.
  2. Wash with Care. Use cold water and a mild detergent. Turn items inside out to protect the color and surface.
  3. Be Gentle. Use mesh bags for delicates, zip up zippers, and avoid overloading your machine.
  4. Air Dry is Your Best Friend. It’s kinder to fabrics, prevents shrinking, and saves energy. If you must tumble dry, use low heat.
  5. Skip the Harsh Chemicals. Avoid chlorine bleach. Go easy on fabric softener, especially with stretch fabrics, as it can reduce their performance.
  6. Steam to Refresh. A quick steam can remove wrinkles and odors between washes, extending the life of your clothes.

The Complete Care Guide

Step 1: Before You Wash

  • Check the Label: This is non-negotiable. It tells you everything you need to know.
  • Sort Smartly: Separate lights from darks, and heavy fabrics (like denim) from delicates (like silk).
  • Prep Your Garments: Turn prints and dark items inside out. Zip zippers and fasten hooks to prevent snags.

Step 2: Washing

  • Spot Clean First: Treat small stains with a gentle dab of detergent to avoid a full wash.
  • Choose the Right Cycle: Use a “Delicate” or “Gentle” cycle for most items.
  • Use Cold Water: It’s effective and much gentler on fabric fibers and colors.
  • Mild Detergent is Key: Harsh detergents can strip color and damage fabric.

Step 3: Drying

  • Lay Flat to Dry: This is the best method for knitwear (sweaters, cardigans) and heavy items to prevent them from stretching out of shape.
  • Hang to Dry: Perfect for blouses, dresses, and jackets. Use padded or wooden hangers to avoid shoulder bumps.
  • Tumble Dry Low (If You Must): Only use the dryer if the care label permits it, and always choose the lowest heat setting. Remove items promptly to prevent wrinkles.

Step 4: Finishing & Storing

  • Steam, Don't Scorch: Steaming is much gentler than ironing for removing wrinkles from most fabrics.
  • Fold, Don't Hang (for Knits): Always fold sweaters and heavy knit items to prevent the shoulders and neckline from stretching.
  • Store Properly: Keep clothes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use breathable garment bags for long-term storage.

Fabric-Specific Advice

For when you need a little extra detail.

  • Denim (Jeans, Jackets):
Wash inside out, in cold water, and as infrequently as possible. This preserves the color and fit. Air dry to prevent shrinking.

  • Knitwear (Sweaters, Cardigans):
Hand wash or use a delicate machine cycle in a mesh bag. Always lay flat to dry. Store folded, never on a hanger. Use a fabric shaver to gently remove any pilling.

  • Silk & Satin (Blouses, Dresses):
Hand wash cold with a silk-safe detergent. Never wring or twist. Press out water with a towel and lay flat or hang on a padded hanger to dry.

  • Performance & Stretch Knits (Leggings, Bodycon):
Cold wash, gentle cycle. Crucially, skip the fabric softener—it clogs the fibers and reduces stretch and moisture-wicking properties. Always air dry; heat will destroy the elastane.

  • Faux Leather & Coated Fabrics:
Do not machine wash. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth. Store on a wide hanger and avoid folding tightly to prevent cracks.
